My meals last month cost me $3.96 each on average.
That’s $118.80 per week. This is in Canadian dollars, too, which is basically Monopoly money at this point.
I could definitely skimp and get the total grocery cost way down by going rice and beans mode, if I wanted to.
But I still want to enjoy my life – and eating healthy does not need to be expensive.
If you follow the five tips below, it will even save you money along the way.
Let’s get into it.
Stop buying organic food.
It’s not any healthier for you. It’s just way, way more expensive.
Also, just be cautious of the term non GMO.
It’s very loosely regulated in Canada and pretty much all the same stuff applies.
Genetically modified foods are just as safe and nutritious as non GM foods.
Number two is an obvious one.
Quit dining out.
A few restaurant meals add up quickly to the same amount as an entire week’s worth of groceries.
Avoiding dining out can help you manage your weight better too.
The restaurant’s job is to make something so delicious and lip-smackin’ finger-lickin’ good that you come back.
They’re not cared about making it calorie wise.
They’re gonna add butter, they’re gonna add sauces, they’re gonna add whatever they want in whatever quantities they want to make sure you have an awesome time and you leave with a full belly.
that means plenty of high calorie condiments, lots of cooking oils, and calorie values that you probably know nothing about.
And same thing goes for like fancy Starbucks coffee drinks.
For $5, seriously?!
I can make coffee at home, my friend.
And don’t forget that some of those drinks are just chocolate whipped cream covered dessert bombs anyways.
Save your calories and your money.
If you’ve never journaled your food before – you don’t know what you don’t know.
In case you want to learn how to journal your food in order to lose fat – that’s exactly what I teach inside On-Demand Fat Loss.
It’s the smarter way of doing things.
Buy and prep your food in bulk whenever you can.
If ground beef is on sale, buy the dip.
I want you to cook enough of that protein so that it’s good for five days. And then you freeze the rest of it. Same thing goes for all these proteins.
Greek yogurt even freezes really well. Chicken, fish, beef, pork.
All that stuff can be stored.
So buy it when it’s on sale.
Buy the big mega packs.
My grocery store actually sells a 25 pound bag of oatmeal.
Here’s how the math shakes out for my morning bowl of oats…
It turns into 141 servings of oatmeal for me, $19 for the whole bag divided by 141 servings comes out to 13 cents a bowl, LMAO.
Costco, Sam’s Club, Wholesale Club, whatever.
Buy it in bulk, save yourself money.
Building habits like this are essential for your long term success with this weight loss stuff anyways.
You don’t just want to do some crazy shakeology diet where you don’t learn how to eat like an actual human being then end up gaining all the weight back.
This is how guys get stuck on the ‘weight loss rollercoaster.’

Eat within your means.
Look, you and I both love a fresh loaf of artisanal sourdough Fresh out of the oven, delicious and warm.
But your boy isn’t spending fourteen dollars on a loaf every two to three days.
Obviously I’m lucky and my girlfriend Jaye bakes sourdough every few days, so we don’t have to spend that money, but it’s for the same reason that I don’t buy king crab legs and tenderloin steaks a few nights a week.
For at least a few hundred years now, eating like a peasant has been a great idea for your health and your wallet.
Beans.
Inexpensive, leaner cuts of meat.
Local fruits, and vegetables.
Whole grains.
I’m about to trigger at least a dozen people here, including probably some of my Italian ancestors, but you don’t need organic, early season Tuscan olive oil that was blessed by the Pope.
Canola oil will do the same job for cooking.
And it’s great for your health, too.
I’m not saying don’t buy nice things.
Just act your wage when you go to the grocery store.
Tip number five is to subscribe to my YouTube channel.
Wait, sorry, that’s not quite right…
Shop online.
Seriously, it’s a double whammy.
If your grocery store offers this, you should definitely be taking advantage of the online in store pickup or if yours does delivery directly to your door, even better.
Mine doesn’t do that, so we still have to go pick up, but it’s amazing.
Firstly, you won’t get distracted by buying things you don’t need in the little dingdong aisle next to the cashier.
All that stuff is junk food and it just hurts your wallet at the end of the day too.
Ordering online also saves you time, so you can spend that time working and getting rich instead.
Getting your food in order is one of the best things that you can do for your health.
It’ll help you lose more fat, build more muscle, have more energy, and it may even improve the quality and duration of your life and the people around you.
And if you do it right, it can even help your finances.
And here’s a bonus tip for you.
If you plan and prep your meals ahead of time, it’s going to make this whole process so much easier to stick to.
Check out my meal prep breakfast sandwich video if you need some ideas on where to start.
As always, thank you so much for reading.
Have an excellent weekend.
